A dead Viet Cong lies in a pit as U.S. Marines fire on Communist positions here December 10th, 1965. The Marines entered the battle to rescue a battalion of government troops almost wiped out by the Viet Cong. Thousands of U.S. Marines from the 7th fleet poured ashore and trapped a Viet Cong out of 1,500 men in the largest operation for the Marines in the conflict, Hoi An, South Vietnam

Sleep in Any Language: A combat interpreter with the U.S. Marine unit southwest of Da Nang catches a quick catnap during an all-day sweep through the area. Like many troopers, he has learned to catch his sleep when he can—a quick catnap here and there to keep him going. U.S. Army Lt. James Gleason, a bandage over a head wound, talks to fellow soldiers after surviving a heavy Viet Cong ambush near Cheo Reo in the central highlands of Vietnam. Gleason and other Americans were advising a Vietnamese force which was to evacuate a small town near Cheo Reo when the guerrillas attacked the motorized convoy. Four Americans and about 50 Vietnamese soldiers were killed in the attack, June 30, 1965

Marines Get Ready for POW Release: United States Marines string barbed wire near Freedom Gate bridge in Korea to help channelize an estimated 22,000 anti-Communist prisoners of war if they are released as scheduled at 12:01 a.m. January 12. Officers of the United States Eighth Army said they are prepared for “any eventuality” and can handle a disorganized rush southward by the POWs if it materializes. The Neutral Nations Repatriation commission is trying to achieve agreement with the Communists and the United Nations command on what to do with the prison-weary veterans in the Anti-Red camp, January 8, 1954
