U.S. Army Lt. James Gleason, a bandage over a head wound, talks to fellow soldiers after surviving a heavy Viet Cong ambush near Cheo Reo in the central highlands of Vietnam. Gleason and other Americans were advising a Vietnamese force which was to evacuate a small town near Cheo Reo when the guerrillas attacked the motorized convoy. Four Americans and about 50 Vietnamese soldiers were killed in the attack, June 30, 1965
