Bourdelle was born in Montaulban in Southwestern France in 1861. By the time he was fifteen, he won a scholarship to the art academy in Toulouse, and in 1885 he moved to Paris where he enrolled at the School of Fine Arts and while there had the opportunity to study with Rodin
