BiographyHe suffered a nervous breakdown during World War I and convalesced (1917) at Davos, where he continued to live. His late landscapes are more serence, profound formalized becoming abstract in 1928. His art was suppressed as 'degenerate' by the Nazis (1937) and he committed suicide in 1938.
