Label TextSince the early 1950s, Micha Bar-Am has been devoted to documenting scenes of Israeli life and is now considered one of the country’s foremost photographers. As a member of the Magnum collective, he worked as a documentarian, but also put a strong emphasis on photographic composition, pairing journalism with a strong sense of aesthetics.

Image Not Available for Sharon offers resignation: Defense Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel resigned as a consequence of his indirect role in the killing of Palestinian refugees in the Beirut camps of Sabra and Shatila by Lebanese Christian phalanges between September 16th to 18th, 1982 as the result of a four months investigation. The 54 year old Defense Minister was the principal architect of Israel’s invasion of Lebanon last year, and had been battling for his political survival since the outcome of the enquiry’s report. The last official function of Ariel Sharon on the day the commission report was published, attending in Tel Aviv a meeting of the “Jabotinsky Order” (a portrait on the wall of Zeev Jabotinsky Zionist Revisionist Movement and Menahem Begin’s spiritual leader), February 8, 1983

Operation Smack Reaches a Climax for One Man: Medical corpsmen carry a wounded combat man to an aid station on the Korean front after he was wounded in “Operation Smack”—Sunday’s unsuccessful assault on Spud Hill positions held by Chinese Reds. Other medics stand by to give assistance when needed. The attack, watched by high army officers supplied with gay-colored programs, now is under fire in Washington and in London, January 29, 1953

Training Pays Off: South Korea: In the rugged, treacherous terrain of Korea, the battle of supply is quite often more important and more violent than the actual combat between men. One unit of the 19th Infantry Regiment, their stones and ammunition shrunken by poor transport and worse roads, discovered a small railroad. Near their position and proceed to make use of it. Utilizing some battered equipment and their own ingenuity, they fashioned an adequate supply line on rails. The tiny railroad was named “Spaulding’s Spur,” after an executive officer in the Regiment. A group of GI’s, aided by some South Koreans, assemble a railroad car from some discarded equipment they found, September 23, 1950
