Fratino uses Modernist formal techniques inspired by Picasso and Matisse to capture elements of contemporary life. He often focuses on domestic life and spaces but has also turned his eye to traditional painting genres such as landscape and still life. This work, with its dramatic close-up of a flying bird, is a nod to American Modernists like Arthur Dove and Georgia O'Keeffe. The painting shows Fratino's Masterful use of color and texture with paint.
