Wendy Red Star's conceptual photography continues in the tradition of feminist artists who have used their own bodies to dismantle cultural expectaions. The Four Seasons, comprised of four self-portraits, was her breakout work, challenging the ways in which society refuses to see indigenous people as contemporary figures, instead equating them with stereotypes tied to false ideas of history and nature.
