Label Text The images in this monumental C-print diptych are a complex mix of historical references. The model pictured, Sue Tilley, is the same woman who often posed for iconic works by British painter, Lucien Freud, including a major print in the Art Center's collections. The title, Soliloquy IV, refers to the long speeches often given by Shakespeare's charcters, and this theme is reinforced by the "Greek chorus" of men and women who line the bottom section of the work as if listening to the primary model sleep. Taylor-Johnson was a major figure in the YBA artist group of the 1990s, and has exhibited around the world. This is the first work by her to enter the permanent collections. NEWS, Oct|Nov|Dec 2019
