MAYA LIN
Maureen Mondora has given
the Art Center
Honey Moon
, 1997, an
exquisite beeswax disk by Maya Lin in honor
of Colleen Vojvodich. Well known as the
designer of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in
Washington, D.C., as well as the Civil Rights
Memorial near the Southern Poverty Law
Center in Montgomery, Alabama, Lin has
created an astonishing body of sculptures,
installations, and prints that respond to the
natural world, of which this work is one. The
form is reminiscent of a full moon with its
circular shape and seemingly inner glow and
was a preliminary work for a larger series of
eight disks that respond to the phases of the
moon. This is the second sculpture by the
artist to enter the collections.
