These works are fragments from Anne Wilson's family's damask table linens presented in the three standard sizes of traditional, formal table napkins. Holes in the cloth are accentuated with a few strands of human hair and countless miniscule stitches of colored thread sewn by hand. From a distance, the embroidered holes suggest evidence of gunshots or burns. At first it may appear that the fabric was stitched with an urgency, as if to take control of a situation resulting from the disorienting conditions of violence, the stitching an act of compulsive repetition in response to trauma. Up close, however, one can see that each stitch is perfectly formed with what appears to be great patience. Time functions at a slower pace in "Dispersions," one that is a reminder of the physical and emotional catharsis born by acts of making and healing. Source: News, January Febraury March 2018.
