Mickalene Thomas is best known for
her large scale paintings covered in various textures and finishes. Her work
celebrates the AfricanAmerican female, and is influenced by pop culture and
fashion, as well as complex art historical references ranging from Edouard
Manet and Gustave Courbet to Andy Warhol and Romare Bearden. This technically
intricate print parallels her paintings through its imagery, use of collaged elements
of various textures, and utilization of multiple printmaking media. Source: News, Apr May Jun, 2015
