Hailed for her draftsmanship, attention to detail and compositional geometry, Van Hoesen led a quiet but remarkable career in which she produced over six hundred prints. This etching is a portrait of the San Francisco collector Dr. Leon Kolb in his drawing room. With tremulous line and stippling, the artist evokes the collector's private world, dense with pictures and memories.
