Label TextJohn Storrs, the American modernist, lived both in the United States and in France, where he studied with the French sculptor Auguste Rodin, and became familiar with modernist movements such as Cubism and Futurism. Like many modernists, Storrs was also inspired by the New York City skyline, and he created many sculptures that responded to its vertical forms. This work was created at the height of the artist's abilities, and seems to draw from the machine age, the architectonic forms of modern skyscrapers, as well as Cubism, with its fractured views of the world. There are two other known works in the edition of this sculpture. Source: News, April May June, 2011.
