Label Text Ann Hamilton's digital print, bound (2009), is one from a variant edition of thirty separate but related images that she created for the Des Moines Art Center Print Club. Each print represents two objects composed of parts of books that the artist calls "book weights." These images of book weights were derived from objects Hamilton created for "human carriage," an installation she presented at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2009, as a meditation on the transmission of cultural ideas. Books of Asian sacred scriptures were unbound, sliced, and regrouped into bundles. For this print edition, Hamilton scanned the bundles of disassembled books and digitally reassembled these fragments into thirty sets of strange, evocative objects, Source: News, January February March, 2010.
