Elizabeth Peyton emerged in the 1990s with her vividly colored portraits of rock stars, historical figures, artists, and her own bohemian group of friends. Julian (2006), an image of Strokes head singer Julian Casablancas, is typical of her work, portraying a glamorous, androgynous figure in bold warm colors. In this 55-color woodcut, Peyton imitates the expressive brushwork of her paintings.
