With humor and satire, Mexican-born American artist Enrique Chagoya addresses conflicting cultural realities in his work. Liberty Backwards (2008) is an homage to Francisco Goya's Tampoco fom the series "Disasters of War" (1810-20). In the grisly Goya image, a French soldier gazes indifferently at a hanged Spaniard. In the Chagoya version, the soldier's head has been replaced with that of Dopey from Snow White, pointing to the foolish nature of war.
