Paul Cadmus burst on the national art scene in the 1930s with dynamic paintings and etchings that provoked outrage for their social, political and erotic content. Drawn and etched with an old master command of line and form, Cadmus' Two Boys on a Beach No. 1 (1938) depicts two young men, one holding a symbolic apple of temptation.
