Label Text Des Moines-based artist Alex Brown engages the viewer with everyday images that emerge out of abstraction. He manipulates the visual meaning of familiar objects. In this work, a horse and rider is created out of a myriad of other objects. His process embraces humor and the joy of discovering an image that at first appears hidden, only to materialize out of shape and color.
Mount is representative of the artist's approach to painting. Brown engages the viewer with everyday images that emerge out of abstraction. He reinstates visual meaning into images that have become familiarized, such as the horse and rider seen here, through a process that embraces humor and the joy of discovery.
