Zeno Writing is the most complex and psychologically jarring of William Kentridge's filmic projects. Based on the classic 1923 Italian novel La Conscienza di Zeno by Italo Svevo, the work combines many of the artist's approaches to image making--the animation of charcoal drawings and torn paper puppets, smoke, and archival film footage.
