"Gustave Courbet," Kunsthaus, Zurich, 1936, cat. ill. no.14 (In the catalog of the above exhibition the painting is titled "La Vallee de la Loue, Prise de la Roche Du Mont" and is dated c. 1846. It is listed as having been shown in the Paris Salon of 1849. Stylistic comparison with a smaller version of this subject painted in 1865 and titled "Landschaft mit Fluss und Brucke" (Landscape with River and Bridge) which is in the collection of Neue Pinakothed, Munich, led to the conclusion that the Courbet in the DMAC's collection was painted at approximately the same time as the Munich picture. However, according to the catalogue raisonne, the DMAC's painting is a much later work which was executed in 1865 - see reference: Robert Fernier LA VIE ET L'OEUVRE DE GUSTAVE COURBET)
