Label Text Corneille, ne Cornelis van Beverloo, was born in Belgium of Dutch parents in 1922. He was a founding member of COBRA, a group of artists based in Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam who came together in the late 1940s in a reaction against the School of Paris which had dominated European art for decades. Bright, vivid colors and fanciful and exuberant subject matter is typicaal of the work which emanated from this short-lived group. Source: Bulletin, March-April, 1980.
