Label Text During the thirties, Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri was the most outspoken artist of the Regionalist movement, which sought to bring art back to the grass roots. In commonplace Midwest humanity, such as the man plowing in this lithograph, Benton sought a fresh and distinctively American art. Source: Bulletin, March 1968
