As with all of Nolde's many works in the watercolor medium, the simplicity and spontaneous effect is somewhat deceptive. Each brush stroke, and each bleeding of wet color, is achieved with the exactness of a traditional Chinese landscape, ... Source: Bulletin, MAy 1966.
