Valley Curtain (Project for Colorado), Grand Hogback

Label Text Christo was born into a prominent family in Gabrovo in central Bulgaria in 1935. His grandfather had been an archaeologist and his mother had worked as executive secretary at the Sofia Fine Arts Academy. Christo hinself studied art and theatrical design at that institution in the early 1950's. After brief periods of further study in Prague and Vienna, he arrived in Paris in 1958 and it was there that he did his first wrapped objects. Three years later his first one-man exhibition was held in a private gallery in Cologne, and in 1964 he moved to New York. Source: Bulletin, July-August 1972.
