Label Text David Dunlap was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1940. He received a B.A. degree from Colorado College, Colorado Springs, in 1962, and B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees from Yale University, completing his study there in 1967. From 1966 to 1970 Dunlap taught at the Kansas City Art Institute, Missouri, and in 1986 became a faculty member at the School of Art and Architecture at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. The central form is the original design for an envelope created in conjunction with an exhibition. This imaginative work has been transformed by an eclectic collection of imagery and expressive orange color. Depicted on the envelope form, its painted mat, and the frame are words, phrases, and images which conjure a number of associations. Source: News, September/October 1990.
