Born in 1886, Rozanova studied at the Bolshakov School of Art and the Stoganov School of Applied Art, Moscow, 1904 to 1910. This print is from a set of 23 lithographs with watercolor and is a collaboration with the avant-garde poet Alexei Kruchenykh, whom she later married.

Figurative images are juxtaposed to non-objective ones, and various painting styles are combined to produce a rich, striking and unique set of prints. Images and poetry are not separated; they occupy the same area without one dominating the other. The works are a very fluid and balanced pairing of linguistic and visual responses to the same subject and inspiration.
