Grant Wood begain making his lithographs, usually in editions of 250, in 1937. February (Horses in Snow) was completed in 1941, the year before he died. The dark forms of the three horses are silhouetted against the gray sky and the snow-covered hills. The parallel strands of the horses' manes, the blurred edges of their bodies and their featureless heads give the effect of a fiercely blowing wind.
