Label Text We see this painting as a landscape, almost entirely, due to the horizon. A cutting divide, almost halfway through the work, gives the viewer land and sky. The sky, a soft light blue with mirrored darker stains of clouds above and distant landscape below; and the land, fluid masses of browns and greens, ocher and blue. The land is undefined, and it seems winter because there is nothing growing from the pools of color, which may be dirt, trees, fields, or perhaps buildings. Watery reflections of the sky could be lakes or puddles, as we have nothing to base scale upon. The landscape may be hard to see because the viewer is implied to be in motion, taking a Winter Walk. If the pace is steady, in an attempt to stay warm, then the landscape can blur into many things we think we may recognize. October, 2020
