This work is an artist's proof (the regular edition numbered 20). The woodcut technique lends itself to the representation of strength, force and emotional power, but in this case the artist's sensitive use of technique evokes a feeling of lyricism and calm. The composition also adds to this feeling as the shore appears to be tilted upward and flat in an effectively decorative way.
