The subject of an artist working from a model has been a fairly common one in Western art for several hundred years;... . Bellows has depicted the subject in a realistic manner which was characteristic of his style and which was frequently considered vulgar by some critics during the early part of the century. The lithograph represnts Robert Henri's life class in New York City.
