Pearlstein ... often uses nude male and female figures for subjects. In his oil painting his tense nude figures often have a hard realism which is slightly disturbing to the observer. The figure in this print, however, is handled in a blander, more generalized manner which reveals the beauty of the human body in repose.
Pearlstein was born in Pittsburgh, where he studied art at Carnegie Tech.
