Matta's influence on our times has been concentrated in his painting which is an intensely personal expression using color, light, and the revelations of the microscope. While many of Matta's forms indicate a source of inspiration from the 20th century's detailed knowledge of science, from the most minute biological specimen to the reaches of outer space, his work shows, too, his introspective explorations which demonstrate his belief that "one can see within one's self."
Matta is representative of the aesthetic transfusion which the war years brought to American art.
