Label Text Although Beal is usually characterized as a "New Realist," he is not concerned with photographic realism. His paintings depict figures and interiors in rather abstract terms. Beal was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1931 and lived in New York. He studied at William and Mary College, at the Art Institute of Chicago, and at the University of Chicago.
