Flight is characteristic of Bosman's work in subject matter as well as style. Nearly always his theme is either overt violence, or as in this work, violence is strongly implied.

Bosman has stated that many of his images derive from Chinese comic books, but they could just as easily stem from prime time television fare, or even the front page of the newspaper. He is often referred to as a Neo-Expressionist, alluding to the German Expressionist artists who were active in Dresden, Munich and Berlin during the first three decades of the 20th century.

Bosman was born in Madras, India in 1944 and received his formal training in London, New York and Skowhegan, Maine. He has taught in New York and in Canada.
