Label Text Like Larry Bell, Alexander was part of the Los Angeles art scene of the 1960s, creating work influenced by Minimalism and its exploration of light and space. The work of Alexander and his contemporaries featured slick, artificial surfaces and colors reminiscent of Southern California iconography such surfboards and cars, creating a Pop contrast to the more clinical works of Judd and Lewitt. Despite its simple shape, every aspect of Untitled is designed to capture light. It is a sleek triangle with smooth, reflective surfaces, appearing different colors according to its environment. The translucent resin absorbs different levels of light as the sculpture thins, making it seem to dissolve into invisibility.
