The first graphic work of Andre Derain to enter the Art Center collection is a highly characteristic and choice drypoint,.... A singularly fine impression, the print is rich with burr, forming the dark areas of the image. In style, it bears traces of Derain's Fauve period at the beginning of the century, with a freedom of drawing and design. In the structure of the landscape-trees, buildings and all, there is much more of the cubist style of Derain, which followed. And overall, it bears an unmistakably French charm and the effectiveness of the naive style.
