Label TextPushetonequa was a prominent Meskwaki artist who captured scenes of daily life from his home on the Meskwaki settlement in Tama, Iowa. This image shows women weaving reeds into the bright colors and bold patterns often found in Meskwaki crafts. The small stalks of corn around them reference the importance of that crop to the Meskwaki (they have their own heritage varieties) and signify that plant’s association with women in the Meskwaki belief system.
