Label Text Gaskell is best known for her large-scale color photographs, in which she presents young girls in a variety of psychologically charged situations. For example, in the wonder series, which references Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, girls sit alone with a set of chattering teeth, tumble down a flight of stairs, or swim in a pool of tears. The series hide, by proxy, and resemblance are even darker, with girls, both sinister and innocent, resting on stair steps, gathering under tumultuous cloud formations, or assembling new life forms. This untitled work, Gaskell's first print, depicts the recurring theme of nurses in her work and is the Des Moines Art Center Print Club's commissioned print for 2001.
