California -based Jim Shaw has created over one hundred 17 x 14 inch works in his ongoing series, My Mirage. This body of work chronicles the life of a fictitious character named Billy. Through these works, we see Billy's youthful traumas and joys, complete with tales of addiction, sex, betrayal, and finally redemption. His sources of imagery are often 1960s popular culture. These works draw from imagery created by a 1960 French greeting card designer.
