Exhibition History"Expressionist Woodcuts" Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines, IA, January 11 - March 31, 2002
Feininger was born in New York City, but spent a great deal of his time in Germany, where he taught at the Bauhaus School. This woodcut presents Feininger's typical use of fragmented angles and lines as well as a disjointed approach to composition. It depicts a cityscape dominated by a church steeple and is a prime example of an Expressionist view of urban life.
