Label Text Dove was among the earliest American painters to move decisively in the direction of abstraction. After traveling in Europe, where he was exposed to the work of Cezanne and Picasso, Dove settled on Long Island and in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. There he produced many of his modernist works. This painting depicts a landscape and melds undulating forms of brown, ocher, and green into total abstraction. Source: News, November December 2000
