While Peter Schuyff's paintings and works on paper seem like fairly commom geometric abstraction, he adds a few twists. One feels as though an organic element lies underneath the surface of the geometry, fighting to come to the fore. There is an almost tromp d'oeil spatial tension. Combined with Schuyff's acknowledged fascination with 1960s "hippie" culture, an almost psychedelic rhythm informs his works.

Born in Baarn, Holland, in 1958, Schuyff grew up in Canada and studied art at the Vancouver School of Art, British Columbia.
